Washington, DC–The Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition (GWRCCC) has released its 2024 Jumpstart Report, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing access to biodiesel and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across gas stations in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) region. This report outlines essential measures to advance clean transportation, enhance air quality, and address the urgent demand for alternative fueling options at local fuel stations.
The Jumpstart Report 2024 concentrates on engaging the community, addressing barriers, and providing resources for gas station owners interested in offering EV charging and biodiesel. With over 200 participants across in-person and virtual meetings, the report emphasizes comprehensive engagement with gas station owners, government representatives, and clean fuel advocates. Through these collaborations, GWRCCC has found strong interest from EV charging vendors eager to partner with local fuel stations, alongside gas station owners open to exploring these installations.
The report also points to critical policy actions needed at the local, state, and federal levels to support this transition:
- Targeted NEVI Program Funds: The message calls for prioritizing NEVI Program funds toward gas station charging installations to support communities most in need.
- Policy Recommendations: GWRCCC encourages the establishment of a Low Carbon Fuel Standard or similar policies in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia to increase biodiesel usage among public and private fleet owners with medium- to heavy-duty vehicles.
- Building Requirements: The report suggests that new or renovated gas stations should be required to include EV charging and biodiesel fueling options to meet rising consumer demand.
Addressing Range Anxiety & Promoting EV Adoption in the DMV
With over 50% of DMV residents living in multi-unit dwellings (MUDs), GWRCCC highlights the value of installing EV charging at gas stations to alleviate range anxiety, a major barrier for potential EV adopters. Providing accessible and convenient public charging options at gas stations ensures that more residents can confidently transition to EVs without fearing limited charging availability.
“Through these collaborations, GWRCCC has found strong interest from biodiesel and EV charging vendors eager to partner with local fueling stations, alongside gas station owners open to exploring these installations,” stated Antoine M. Thompson, CEO of GWRCCC.
