Social Media/Marketing

Writing Intern

From writing government Requests for Comments (RFC), GWRCCC articles, interviews, statistical reports, marketing campaigns, blogs and more, we are looking for compelling writers and marketers. Graphic Design Intern

The opportunities and experience for the graphic design intern are invaluable. Our intern will assist the GWRCCC senior graphic designer with web development, social media design and the design of all email outreach. Photography and video editing is a plus. Must have experience in graphic design programs such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Accounting Intern

Our Accounting Intern must be knowledgeable in QuickBooks, and have strong communication skills and experience working in a fast-paced environment. Job Summary

This position is located in the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE), Environmental Services Administration. The mission of DOEE is to protect and restore the environment, conserve natural resources, and improve the quality of life in the District of Columbia. As the nation’s capital city, the District will become a model of environmental protection and sustainable environmental practices. In partnership with other district agencies, the federal government, business groups, non-profit organizations, and residents, the department will help instill environmental awareness through innovation and best practices. This Environmental Protection Specialist position resides in the Air Quality Permitting Branch, Air Quality Division, Department of Energy & Environment, and works under the general supervision of the Branch Chief.

This position will be supporting the Air Quality Division’s permitting program, primarily by evaluating various types of air quality permit applications and preparing associated air quality permits and approvals, with associated technical support documents. The incumbent will process permits in a range of complexity up to and especially including some of the District’s most complex Title V major source permits. Another primary duty will be to assist the Branch Chief as a team lead in reviewing other staff members’ draft permits to ensure quality and consistency and to focus on backlog reduction, especially within the Title V air quality permitting program.

Position Overview

The Green & Healthy Homes Initiative seeks an Environmental Assessor I professional to perform environmental assessments, housing inspections, and energy audits of residential homes primarily in the Baltimore region as well assisting with quality assurance/quality control assessments for other GHHI project sites. This key position aims to help the organization reduce energy loss and home-based environmental health hazards in the homes of clients by conducting housing assessments and housing intervention services. The goal of GHHI is to utilize a single stream housing assessment and intervention model to create safe homes for children, families and older adults that are free of lead hazards, asthma triggers, and safety hazards, and that are weatherized and energy efficient. Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-home environmental assessments, housing inspections, and home energy audits (where applicable) in residential properties.
  • Develop Scopes of Work for healthy homes (lead hazard reduction, mold/moisture remediation, asthma trigger reduction, IPM, indoor air quality, household injury prevention, Aging in Place), energy efficiency, weatherization, and housing rehabilitation interventions.
  • Coordinate and collaborate on comprehensive housing intervention services with GHHI team members, housing service providers, and other partnering agencies.
  • Review Scopes of Work and Cost Estimates for Maryland Programs for quality control, market rate analysis, and performance improvement purposes.
  • Conduct Scope of Work reviews and quality assurance/quality control reviews virtually for other GHHI sites and projects across the country as assigned.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance/Quality Control inspections both in-person and virtually and prepare reports on findings.
  • Provide information to clients on housing assessment results, property scope of work, risk awareness, prevention techniques, and prevention resources for housing intervention measures identified in the home during the housing assessment.
  • Install initial basic safety measures and injury prevention measures to reduce household safety hazards and injury risks in Program properties (where applicable).
  • Perform initial safety and healthy homes measure interventions in Program properties where applicable.
  • Enter housing assessment, scope of work and client services data in GHHI’s Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database (or other required data platform) and report data in compliance with standards and regulations and maintain responsibility for project reports.
  • Monitor achievement toward Program goals and make recommendations towards overcoming barriers for service delivery.
  • Consistent implementation of housing intervention program protocols and standards.
  • Ensure strict adherence by programs to safe work practices and worker safety rules in accordance with all HUD, EPA, DOE, OSHA, MDE, MOSH, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines as well as GHHI policies.
  • Make recommendations and assist with updates to program assessment and intervention protocols and training modules on lead, asthma, and other home-based environmental health issues through regular review of current best practices for Healthy Homes and new or revised contract and grant requirements.
  • Participate in GHHI trainings and webinars for internal staff and external partners as assigned.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of effective program evaluation.
  • Monitor the program’s achievement toward meeting program benchmarks.
  • Identify program barriers and develop and implement recommendations to address them.
  • Support building relationships with housing service providers and community partners to increase Program referrals, build Program partnerships, and recommend additional resources that Program clients can utilize.
  • Participate in weekly and other team meetings as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned related to organizational mission and programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience in performing environmental assessments, home energy audits or in a relevant field as a housing inspector required.
  • BPI Energy Auditor, Building Analyst and/or Quality Control Inspector certification or ability to meet the requirements and pass the exam.
  • Knowledge and professional experience conducting home inspections, cost estimating, preparing scopes of work, or remediating home-based environmental health issues – particularly lead hazard reduction, healthy homes, weatherization, and/or safety hazards.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High proficiency in entering housing assessments, client service information, scopes of work and housing intervention cost information in GHHI’s Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database or other databases.
  • Ability to use laptop or field tablet to conduct environmental assessments and other housing inspections.
  • Experience with housing rehabilitation, housing construction, or other home-based environmental health hazard remediation in residential homes.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a team environment with fellow GHHI staff, agency partners, and community organization partners.

Job Description Summary:

The Field Support Specialist will provide advanced corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair support across multiple solar facilities. This role functions as a regional technical resource, supporting escalated technical issues, non-conformance items, and complex system-level failures while traveling extensively throughout the assigned region.

This role is located full-time on a jobsite, and will require travel throughout the Eastern region. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.
Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Able to perform all essential Solar Field Service Technician Level II or Level III job responsibilities
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, testing, and repair of solar equipment and systems with minimal or no supervision

  • Travel extensively (approximately 75 percent) to support corrective maintenance activities throughout the assigned region

Compensation and Benefits
The starting annual compensation range for this position is $39,750-$55,000 for a candidate with 2-8 years of experience. Candidates on the lower end of directly relevant experience should expect to be on the lower end of this range; candidates on the higher end of relevant experience are likely to be on the higher end of this range.   • Develop project specific project plans, Project Management Plans/quality management plan.
  • Create and maintain project schedules.
  • Manage subconsultants.
  • Monitor and execute project progress, including identifying and mitigate risks, developing extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals.
  • Communicate project status, updates, and issues to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in office’s project financial status meetings.
  • Build relationships with client(s) to understand preferences and requirements to set-up and execute a quality project.
  • Prepare progress reports and review invoices.
  • Develop and lead in project status and presentations
  • Assist Section Heads, Office Leaders, and Practice Leaders with the marketing process including, SMART Go/No Go decisions, proposal development, and interviews.
  • Coordinate and guide all technical resources within the project team to ensure delivery of a high-quality outcome.
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to the project team through one-on-one check-in meetings and various project debriefs to acknowledge achievements, identify areas for improvement, and share lessons learned.
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, environmental, or chemical engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Experience delivering water and wastewater projects from design through construction phase engineering services
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Strong Presentation Skills
  • Works well in a team environment

Preferred Experience
CAPM or PMP

  • Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
  • Experience with multiple project delivery methods i.e. Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3
  • Experience managing multidiscipline project teams

Working Conditions:

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.

Local Green Job Boards

The Greater Baltimore Wilderness Coalition has two excellent resource pages: a job boards list page and a page that lists links to Maryland climate workforce development pages.

The Baltimore Office of Sustainability “develops and advocates for programs, policies, and actions by government, citizens, businesses, and institutions that improve the long-term environmental, social, and economic viability of Baltimore City.” They have a page on starting careers in nature based fields that contains links to interviews with green professionals as well as a PDF that has specific information on doing a green job search in Baltimore.

National Job Boards

Ed’s Clean Energy and Sustainability Jobs List is an independent publication launched in March 2017 by Ed Carley. Ed’s Clean Energy and Sustainability Jobs List is a resource for people looking for jobs fighting climate change. The jobs listed on the site are also available via a free newsletter subscription, and require up to 5 years experience. The (modestly priced) paid newsletter subscription lists the free jobs + those that are more senior.

Remote Climate Jobs lists it goal is “to make it easy to locate environmental, sustainability, climate, and green jobs that are remote, hybrid, or have a flexible location option.” Go here and scroll down a bit to see the jobs.

Green Jobs Network lists itself as “the  #1 community for climate and social impact jobseekers”. Their homepage has the ability to search for jobs by location or category. Their job board lets you browse jobs. There is a link to a board that is only for fellowships and also one for internships. They also have a newsletter that you can sign up for and also a climate career center that allows you to “access career & workforce development services including career coaches, education & training programs, interactive tools to explore career fields”. Lastly, there is a free newsletter you can sign up for.

The Green Job Board US has jobs based in the US. and is a mix of government and commercial jobs.

EV Careers is a clearinghouse site for both employers and job seekers to find careers in the EV industry. They have an excellent Electric Vehicle Jobs guides page that describes all the different jobs that go into EVs, beyond just engineering.

The North American Association for Environmental Education jobs board lists itself as a place to “find and post jobs in environmental education, climate education, outdoor education, preK–12 and non-formal education, enviro-related jobs, and everything in between. You can view the site here.

Trellis job board touts itself as listing “careers in sustainability, climate tech, renewable energy, net zero, the circular economy, ESG and more”. Check it out here.
