The District of Columbia Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) DC Circulator transit program in April 2018 placed 14 Proterra Battery Electric Buses (BEBs) into service as part of a two-year pilot. The pilot proved to be a crash course in the challenges of building and operating BEB infrastructure and chargers.

The pilot also offered a chance to compare the cost of operating electric buses alongside diesels. DDOT delayed completion of the pilot report due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. The pilot report is now complete, and the agency is ready to share its findings in a final presentation to include a discussion of total costs to operate diesel compared to electrics, vehicle performance, lessons learned and next steps for the DC Circulator Electric bus program.

Transit properties and other interested parties are invited to participate in a Zoom presentation and discussion that will take place next Wednesday, August 25th at 11:00 AM EDT. Please use the attached link to register for the meeting.
